What to expect
Essentially, Luxor, the ancient capital of Upper Egypt is a sprawling open air museum on the west bank of the Nile, home of the Valley of the Kings where Tutankhamen and other pharaohs were buried and the Valley of the Queens, the necropolis for royal wives and children. On the east bank are numerous temples of Karnak a complex of kiosks, halls, soaring columns and obelisks dedicated to the Theban Gods.
