What to expect
The ancient city of Aswan sits sedately on the East Bank of the Nile at the first cataract, and as Egypt’s southernmost city is the gateway to Sudan, Nubia and the rest of Africa. A vibrant trading centre, the charming town is a remarkable spot to explore at the start or end of your luxury Nile River cruise.

Add another day and journey to Abu Simbel to marvel at the awe inspiring statues and intricate carvings. Up early and take a short flight to Abu Simbel to marvel at the Temple of Rameses II and the accompanying temple built for Queen Nefertari. The immense temples were dismantled block by block and incredibly reconstructed to prevent them being lost to Lake Nasser when the land flooded after the construction of the Aswan high dam. Ask our Africa Experts to add Abu Simbel to your sojourn.
