Madagascar, the fourth largest island on the planet has an astonishing biodiversity of flora and fauna found nowhere else. Detached from the African continent some 165 million years ago the island is more than 1,600 kilometres long, over 575 kilometres at its widest point with over 6,000 kilometres of coastline. Madagascar offers a kaleidoscope of discoveries where more than a hundred different varieties of lemur exist on an island filled with fascinating species you've likely never heard of … fossa, didiera, panther chameleon and amazing vegetation including pachypodium with spiny stems, travellers palms and baobabs in stark landscapes while rain forests shelter iridescent birds, chameleons, insects and over a 1,000 species of orchids.
Unlike its nearest Indian Ocean neighbours, Madagascar has remained relatively isolated and is considered one of the last undiscovered eco tourism destinations. Besides a few major roads, the island’s infrastructure and facilities are very limited, and travel is best by 4WD vehicle, charter and domestic flights. A developing country Madagascar offers a different experience and at times it can be challenging as facilities may be lacking however this adds to its intrigue and charm.
Wildlife Safari offers a selection of custom designed private journeys in Madagascar to depart on any day of the week, expertly curated by our Indian Ocean Island experts. You will travel in air conditioned comfort in your private 4WD vehicle accompanied by an English speaking guide. Your English guide is an essential companion as English is not widely spoken in Madagascar.
