Thousands of kilometres from anywhere, the Seychelles has some of the most exquisite untouched islands in the Indian Ocean stretching in a crescent from the equator all the way to the tip of Madagascar.
The 115 islands of the Seychelles Archipelago are split into granitic and coralline islands in a cluster around the larger islands of Mahe, Praslin, La Digue which are the most visited as they offer the widest range of accommodations. Outer Islands, beyond the Seychelles Plateau, are the flat coraline islands extending west towards East Africa with many of these islands just tiny coral specks while the Inner islands are mostly granitic and cluster around the main islands of Mahe, Praslin and La Digue.
Mahe, home to Victoria, the petite capital and Seychelles International Airport, is the largest island with a lush rainforest interior, breathtakingly white sandy beaches and hidden coves. Full of nature the enchanting Praslin Island, where the legendary Coco De Mer palm grows, has stunningly beautiful beaches including Anse Lazio and Anse Georgette with some of the finest resorts, while slower paced La Digue is renowned for its massive blush pink granite boulders spilling onto the brilliant white beaches of Grand Anse, Anse Coco and iconic Anse Source d’Argent.
With nearly half the Seychelles set aside as designated national parks along with two UNESCO World Heritage Sites of Aldabra, the world’s largest raised coral atoll and Vallee de Mai on Praslin, a natural palm forest reserve dominated by the Coco de Mer palm, which has the largest seed in the plant kingdom.
