A Volcanic Gem in the Indian Ocean

Reunion, the southernmost overseas department of France sits between Madagascar and Mauritius and is one of the world’s last remaining colonial possessions. For an enchantingly small island in a vast Indian Ocean, it has many astonishing natural resources with imposing mountains, volcanoes and valleys, lush rainforests and waterfalls dominating the centre and a dramatic coastline as varied as its interior with sheer cliffs, sandy coves and beaches of golden and black sands.

A Volcanic Wonderland

Explore Craters and Peaks

Reunion was once a vast volcano which collapsed to leave a craggy interior and three massive and distinctly different calderas. Mafate and Salazie are inaccessible by road but can be reached if you are an experienced hiker or by a scenic helicopter flight while the third caldera, Cilaos with its quaint town is easily accessed by road. Reunion is home to one of the world’s most active volcanoes, Piton de la Fournaise set in a lunar landscape which for a serious adventurer may be climbed.

Reunion combines brilliantly with its Indian Ocean neighbours of Mauritius, Madagascar or the  Seychelles for the ideal islands combination.  Our Indian Ocean Experts can design the perfect itinerary to include your choice of islands to explore, stay and discover at your own pace.
